Melina and Matt from Michigan decided to get married in Ireland as it had always been on their bucket list to holiday here so they decided to combine their wedding with an Irish Honeymoon. Melina Googled, “Cool places to get married in Ireland for small weddings.” and she says ‘When we saw what Fanningstown Castle had to offer and its location, we knew this would fit our plans completely. Then when we reached out to Mary, she was so helpful, so we knew we picked the right place’.

Just eight of us travelled, two sets of parents, maid of honor, best man, and us, of course. Planning a wedding from abroad is not easy. Mary gave us many recommendations for vendors and wedding day ideas. The thing we will always remember is when our handfasting cord was late getting to Fanningstown Castle, Mary actually went around town to find the delivery person, got the handfasting cord, and had it back to the castle in time for our wedding. We will never forget that!’

Other special memories include hearing our harp player, Cathy Potter, play our college “fight song”. We were also able to drive to the Cliffs of Moher to take wedding photos there after our ceremony, and make it back to Fanningstown in time for dinner and drinks. It was such an intimate setting that we could enjoy every minute of our day. Additionally, we were very lucky with the weather. It was 70F and mostly sunny. It was a beautiful day!

We would fully recommend Fanningstown Castle for a wedding or for a central place to base your Irish vacation from. Fanningstown Castle’s location makes it easy to get to and from Shannon Airport, and is an easy drive to Limerick, the southwest coast of Ireland, Waterford, Rock of Cashel, and even Dublin for a day trip. For golfers, there are many golf courses that are not too pricey nearby as well. We hope to visit again in the future!’
