Fanningstown Castle is a small private wedding venue like no other. You and your guests will feel like royalty as you enjoy the entire castle to yourselves throughout the memorable moments of your wedding celebration.

Getting married at Fanningstown Castle means all the details—both big and small—will be looked after for you. Your only responsibility will be to relax as you take in the romantic venue and the pleasure of every moment during your wedding.

After your wedding, we invite you to stay at the castle for a unique and romantic honeymoon destination.

There are five bedrooms and three bathrooms within the castle providing ample space to accommodate 10 people—two of the bedrooms offer the choice of double or twin beds.

The castle offers plenty of comfortable living spaces to mingle and relax with your guests including a sitting room with an open fire, a library, a dining room as well as a country-style kitchen which opens onto an enclosed patio with seating and a gas grill. There is also plenty of space in the castle and its gardens to slip away for a quiet moment on your own.

Whether it’s simply you and your loved one staying with us or you’re joined by a handful of your closest friends and family, you will have the castle all to yourself for a cozy experience in luxurious surroundings.

A private castle wedding venue to fulfill all your dreams

By the time you arrive at the castle, the wedding planning will be in order and every detail will be customized to your taste and color scheme. Depending on your needs and preferences, we will work with our local suppliers to arrange for flowers, candles and lanterns, music, wedding dinner and/or breakfast, wedding cake, beverages including Champagne and wine, wedding cars and transport, hair and make-up, photography and videography.

If you so desire, you, your spouse, and up to 8 guests can enjoy your wedding banquet prepared by our in-house chef in the elegant dining room within the castle walls. Planning to invite a larger number of guests? It will be our pleasure to host a wedding buffet or BBQ for up to 20 people. Or perhaps you would prefer to have a Champagne and canapé toast after your wedding before travelling into the nearby village of Adare to dine in one of the superb local restaurants. Following your big day, you may wish to stay in the castle and relax with your guests over a leisurely wedding breakfast.

Get married in a rustic Irish castle with historical roots

We know for certain that a castle has existed in Fanningstown as far back at the year 1285 when the Anglo-Normans ruled this part of Ireland. Based on its size, we believe our beautiful, rustic castle originally served as a defensive structure for the Norman family by the name of Maurice.

We see record proof of our Fanningstown Castle emerge again in the late 16th century when it was used as an English fortress during a great rebellion to end English overlordship in Ireland.

We next hear tale of our castle in the year 1656 when a civil survey tells us that Fanningstown had slipped away from English control.

In the 19th century, after an extended period of relative peace in Ireland, the surviving remnants of the castle came under the influence of talented architects in love with the Gothic style. And so, the Gothic potential of our castle was unearthed.

It was in 1936 that the Normoyle family came into possession of the castle, and it remains under the care and attention of the same family to this day.

Our castle is nestled in the fertile valley of the river Maigue in County Limerick. Only three miles away you’ll find the charming village of Adare. By exploring Adare, you’re stepping back in time to a medieval town that came into its own during the 19th century.

The picturesque thatched cottages lining the roads are quintessentially Irish, giving you a true sense of traditional Irish country living. Many of the notable landmarks throughout the village—including Desmond Castle, the Franciscan Friary, and the bridge over the Maigue River—are structures that were built by craftsmen during the Middle Ages.

When you’re ready for a breath of fresh air, take a stroll through our gardens which make the perfect private retreat as well as the ideal setting for an alfresco meal during warmer weather.

Venture into the village of Adare to find some of the region’s most celebrated restaurants and most iconic pubs. The same village also offers plenty of shopping opportunities as well as chances to explore the historical roots of the region.

If your idea of relaxation is to spend time outdoors immersed in physical activity, you’ll find plenty of options nearby including golf, fishing, nature walks, horse riding and mountain biking.

Directions to your private Irish castle

Fanningstown Castle is located approximately 40 minutes driving time from Shannon Airport, 20 minutes from Limerick City, and 10 minutes from Adare village.

If you will not be renting a car during your stay, you will be able to take a bus to Adare then book a taxi to Fanningstown Castle.

An affordable venue, a boutique experience

Fanningstown Castle sets the stage for a unique, luxe wedding and honeymoon experience within a price range that accommodates most budgets.

Your dates will be secured with a 50% booking deposit; the remaining 50% of the rate will be due six weeks prior to your arrival. The rate includes all taxes, reasonable use of electricity, towels, bed linen, logs for the fire, as well as a welcome pack of groceries upon arrival to help you settle in. Oil-fired central heating is metered at cost in order to keep our central heating charges within a reasonable range. The rate covers supplies needed for your wedding ceremony including fresh flowers, candles, chairs and table linens.

As a courtesy to our neighbors, we’ve established quiet time outdoors from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM every day. Music played outdoors for your wedding ceremony is perfectly fine during daytime hours. We do ask that during the night, you keep music played indoors to a reasonable level in respect of the people who live nearby.

The castle is surrounded by farmland which makes for a location that is secluded and picturesque. In consideration of the farm animals which scare easily, we do not allow the use of fireworks, Chinese lanterns or drones.

You may be curious as to why we don’t offer set packages. As a small venue, we are able to tailor your wedding celebration to your desires and tastes rather than following a “one-size-fits-all” approach. We do not offer set packages simply because we provide a unique, individualized experience for every couple that chooses Fanningstown Castle.
